I can give you either a precise number (47) or an accurate one
(somewhere between 1 and 500). Which is more useful?

Do so, and the full majesty of British law will have you (so to speak)
for breakfast.

One of Jackboot Dave's latest wheezes; if you clear the snow from
outside your house and someone goes arse over tip on said cleared area,
you will be liable. No kidding. I couldn't make something like that up.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The former might perhaps have more relevance to the question...

When we are talking about a specific number of bats, that is. There might
be circumstances in which knowing that some number between 1 and 500 was
the answer, but not I think in the case of flying mice with attitude.

It is precise but tremendously inaccurate. I don't expect to be able to
give you a more accurate single number than that; the bats do tend to
shuffle around a lot.

What _is_ their attitude? (Other than "cold and hungry".)

Nothing beats his very latest wheeze. Get banged up and subsequently
found innocent? That'll be 3 1/2 grand per year for the privelege of
wearing the arrowed shirt, kipping under the grey blanket, and bending
over in the shower to pick up the soap for Bruno the weightlifter and
his merry chums. No, don't thank us, just consider it "saved living
expenses".

Sums up C.S. Lewis' comments on the banality of evil quite nicely, I
think.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Oh, well, that's all right, because with the new standards of evidence
and lack of jury trials you're much less likely to be found innocent
anyway.

If you can't pay the fine, does your time served count towards the
imprisonment for that?

Is setting traps for the lawyers involved allowed?

And if it's not, should it be?

Maybe my .sig will be back this time!

Buying the kids a new sled works pretty well too.

Being thrill because you have an arctic breed dog who LOVES the
snow is another way of ensuring snow doesn't last

Err, you might want to move to Montana then. 67 inches of snow most
places, and 20 feet in the cuts and washes. There are gonna be floods
later this year when the snow melts, the latest predictions by residents
therefrom is around June.

I don't live there, mind, but I have an Aunt, Uncle, and cousins of
various consanguinity living thereabouts. (Meaning that some are first
cousins, some are first and one remove (or, in my children's case,
second cousins)).

One has to admire the ingenuity of these people. Lord Vetinari in all
his pomp couldn't have come up with that one.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

So, let me get this straight - they bang you up wrongly, you fight for years
(in many cases) to prove that this is the case and, just when you think
you've won, they send you the bill?

So they're trying to claim, as a matter of showing they think you're
guilty, even though the court didn't think so. I can see why an aggressive
lawyer might think of that. One of the qualities of politicians is
supposed to be enough judgement to realise that you're being silly.

Of course, judgement was defined as treasonable by M. Thatcher. Asserting
your authority is all that matters now.

I think nowadays the main quality of a politician, with a few worthy
exceptions, is to get re-elected.

What I find interesting is that this thread has not appeared on my
ISP's news feed (which is why I'm posting from Google Groups). Time to
extract Penelope, the Bat of Clue, from her boudoir and remind them I
pay them money to provide a service.

What I find *really* interesting is that Big Blunkett's wheeze has to
date failed to appear in the English papers. I only spotted it in the
Scottish papers, because the Passel Of Rogues in the
half-billion-pound des.res. in Edinburgh are stating that the wheeze
will not be implemented in Scotland.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
