There are definitely more than fourteen of them.

Try this place. If they burgle you and you kick the shit out of them,
you go to jail. They walk. And if they sue you, you have to pay them
damages, too.

Well, one would expect the process to select for that ability, really.

I thought that if you had a worn staircarpet with a hole in it and a
burglar tripped on the hole and broke his leg he could sue you, without
your even having the satisfaction of kicking him.

As for the "don't clear the snow because if someone slips on the mess
you've made they can sue" thing, that was with us many years ago when we
last had more than a half-inch of snow in Bristol, so I don't think it can
have been Jackboot Dave's latest wheeze any more than I think it was Mrs
Thatcher's idea to declare that showing some discrimination (which is
another word for using one's own judgement) is bad naughty behaviour.

They're both of them easy targets, I agree, but I strive desperately to be
fair in these matters.

Better them than us. I had enough with the very light flurries that
we ran into on the way back from Blacksburg. Very strange, it was
snowing and the sun was shining. Luckily, it wasn't nasty enough to
do anything to the traffic situation, we actually made pretty good
time. But it's nice to be home, it'll be even nicer tomorrow when I
do the laundry and there won't be any clothes left smelling of "hotel
drawer disinfectant".
