How do you pronounce the current year, 2003?
I say 'two thousand three', but I have heard 'twenty oh three' which
does not sound right to me.
I wonder if it varies by region???

I've always heard two thousand three or just oh three here in Florida.

I don't think one should use 'ought three' until at least 2050.

It's not so much ought three, just "what year is it?" "Oh three" "K,
thanks" type of thing.

Um...maybe it's from having experience in a communications-oriented
environment, but I'll normally "spell" it out as "two-double-oh-three"
if it's in four digits, or just "oh-three" if two.

I've heard it most as two-thousand three (for all you non-math
pedants, you don't use the word "and" until you hit a decimal
point).
However, I see the logic in twenty-oh-03. After all, we didn't
say one thousand nine hundred ninety nine, did we?

some of us non-math pedants _would_ say two thousand and three.

Aargh....
Think I must have been even more tired than I thought I was when I
posted that. What I was trying to say was the correct English here
in the UK would be "two thousand and three", or "one thousand nine
hundred and ninety nine". The "and" is correct here.

....or you could take a cue from Microsoft (the source of all good
things, at least according to Uncle Bill) and call it 2K3.
MS uses the term "Windows 2K3" for its new bloatware server,
Windows Server 2003.

Same here. I was taught that it was fine to include the "and" so long as it
was not used in a mathematical context (this included "2 plus 2 equals 4"
versus "2 and 2 is/are 4"
Dates and other non-mathematical terms were not included in the "don't ever
let me hear you say 'and'" threat.

It's obvious you did NOT study 5th grade in Australia, then. The
number would *always* be read here as 'two thousand and three'. If
there was a decimal place, it would be 'two thousand and three point
