I am not sure. I recall quite vividly that I stabbed Caesar. He had
been dismissing my LotR public readings from the Colosseum schedule,
to make room for bloody gladiator battles. So I gave him "bloody".
Anyway, this would make me over 2000 years old, but I don't think this
is realistic. More probably, I stumbled into some sort of time rift.

J.R.R. Tolkien.
> What do you dislike?:
My worst friend Bqggz. Heretics, in general. Philip Pullman. David
Eddings. All other so-called authors who dare to mock Tolkien. Peter
Jackson. Everyone who collaborated with Peter Jackson to make this
travesty of a "movie". Cinema bosses who allow his movie to be
screened. Athlete's foot. Hungry ice bears hunting me whilst I cannot
run properly due to athlete's foot. Philip Pullman, who trains ice
bears to hunt me. (Oh sorry, I already mentioned him.) Bqggz.
> How did you discover the works of J.R.R. Tolkien?:
When I was a toddler, my parents had LotR on their bookshelf. It was
easy for me to discover it, since the books emitted a soft glow of
wisdom and beauty in the dark. (Only toddlers can perceive that.) So
it is no surprise that the first word I ever spoke was related to
these books. I pointed at them and spoke: "Enlightenment".
> Which of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have you read and which is your

All of them.
> Which is your favorite character from "The Hobbit"? "The Lord of the

All of them.
> Where would you live if you could dwell anywhere in Middle-earth?:
In Minas Tirith, helping Findegil to transcribe the books.
> Which lord would you serve if you lived in Middle-earth? (You can
> choose any of the lords from any of the first three ages.):
I probably would not serve anyone, but be the very same I am now: a
wandering prophet.
> Have you ever tried to learn to speak or write any of the languages
> that Tolkien invented?:
I spoke nothing but Quenya between 1855 and 1882, to protest against
the scandalous fact that Tolkien was not yet born. I gave it up when I
got hungry and could not buy a sandwich, because the baker did not
understand me.
> Has Tolkien inspired you to write any stories of your own?:
Since Tolkien has inspired my life, I guess he indirectly inspired my
autobiography, which can be found on my website.
> Has Tolkien had any impact on the moral choices of your life? (In
> other words, did you recall specific quotes from his works when you
> were trying to figure out what was the right thing to do?):
Of course. I base my entire life and all my decisions on Tolkien.
> Would you recommend the works of Tolkien to your friends?:
I think "recommend" is a rather weak word. "Proselytize" might be a
better one.
> Do you have a favorite Tolkien-related website?:
Yes, my own one. http://www.tolkientruth.info/
> What is your favorite Tolkien-related reference book?:
I do not need reference books, because I know all of Tolkien's
writings by heart.
> What other authors has Tolkien inspired you to read?:
I do not read anything else except Tolkien.
And, of course, Morambar Udunvagor, but only these of his works that
have not been falsified by that nasty jellyfish Pseudo.
> What other authors do you currently enjoy reading?:
See above.
> Did you enjoy any of the movies about Middle-earth?:
None of them was really true to the books, so: no.

I suspect that the signs would be the same for ASL (American Sign Language)
without the lip movement, since this language doesn't allow lip movement in
it's grammar.
The LSF (Langue des Signes de France) should be pretty close also, I don't
know the status of lip movement for it though, the lip movement from QSL
might have come out from it's evolution (since it is rather peculiar) or
from LSF. The other language that really influenced QSL is ASL. I can try
to get ASL, but I don't really anyone who speak LSF, and no one speakks it
fluently among my friends.

Most of them. But I have not read Roverandom, Mr. Bliss, or Leaf by
Niggle - easier to list the omissions, you see. No favourites.
> Which is your favorite character from "The Hobbit"? "The Lord of the

No favourite character. When I daydream myself into the story I run as
myself, not usurping the role of one of Tolkien's own subcreated characters.

South Ithilien, near the Ethir. After the War of the Ring ended, since I
don't want to return to the beach after a lovely swim in the surf only to be
faced with leering orcs or stone-faced, slave-hunting Haradrim. Perhaps my
preferences will change come summer; I'm tired of scraping ice off my car in
the morning dark. But I would also like to be able to travel. The library
in Rivendell would be nice. Visiting Lórien too, although I would certainly
be refused entry during Galadriel's rule there, unless I happened to do
something particularly important to her and her folk.

None. I should prefer to be a lesser ally of the enemies of Sauron and his

Parodies. Four of them may be found at

> Has Tolkien had any impact on the moral choices of your life? (In

No need. I have never found myself in a situation where I waffled on a
moral issue, and needed specific guidance. Or if I have, I'll be in a bit
of a sweat if the scriptures are true and I will stand before God the Judge
on the Last Day.

Yes.

No.

Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, ---
> What other authors has Tolkien inspired you to read?:
None. Tolkien has inspired me to read more Tolkien.
> What other authors do you currently enjoy reading?:
Currently I am wasting more time daydreaming than reading. But fantasy,
mostly on the humorous side, is enjoyed.
> Did you enjoy any of the movies about Middle-earth?:
I have watched three movies that were inspired by the LotR, and copied many
names and a few themes. I enjoyed them. For the purists out there, I do
not confuse the story in the movies with that in the books.

Do you believe it is a matter of choice?
I agree that the films -- whether by Jackson, Bakshi or anyone else
-- should be considered a different story about different characters:
a story that shares some superficial similarities with Tolkien story,
and characters that share names with Tolkien's characters, but
nonetheless not the same story or the same characters.
However, personally I find that I am not _able_ to separate the two
to the degree necessary to enjoy Jackson's _Return of the King_ in
particular -- it is not due to a lack of trying to separate them -- I
would much rather be able to just enjoy the film than get upset over
it (unless I carefully make sure not to watch the 5 - 10 minutes that
I find unbearable), but so far I have not been able to. Of course I
could be (sub-consciously, I'd claim) _choosing_ to be a 'purist' and
thus (again sub-consciously) refuse to separate them -- I _could_ be,
but I prefer to believe otherwise

I hope by this you mean wilful stupidity, not honest lack of knowledge or

stupidity is indistinguishable from evil. Is this roughly what you had in

Ravn is also Bokmål Norwegian, while ramn is Nynorsk. Korp occurs in
some Norwegian dialects. As for hræfn, check my signature in my previous
post. Brennus (name of the Gaul who sacked Rome because the Romans had been
uppity) is conjectured to mean Raven (Brân in modern Welsh), while Frankish
king Clothair's son Chramne/Chram/Chramn seems to mean the same in Old
Frankish.

Which 5-10 minutes do you find "unbearable"?

Name/Alias(es): Dave/NY Teacher
Gender: Male
Age: 40 in early February
Nationality: USA
Posting since: Mid 90s, but under a screen name that I no longer remember. I
remember the University of Buffalo switched to usenet in 91 and I posted
Tolkien-related material then , but not sure if it was *this* newsgroup.
Heroes: Lincoln. Churchill. You can't be a history teacher and not list
those two, at least, just for their command of the language.
What are your hobbies and/or interests?: Cooking, 80s -era rock and roll,
science and science fiction
What do you dislike?: Beans, in any form; cats; ignorance.
How did you discover the works of J.R.R. Tolkien?: I saw the cartoon version
of The Hobbit on TV, and then my older brother handed me a copy of the book.
By 7th grade I had read the Silm and LOTR multiple times.
Which of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have you read and which is your
favorite?: I am not much into JRRT's non-Middle Earth works.
Which is your favorite character from "The Hobbit"? "The Lord of the
Rings"? "The Silmarillion"?: Hobbit - Roac; LOTR - Faramir; Silm - Tulkas
Where would you live if you could dwell anywhere in Middle-earth?: I would
probably wander over great distances...
Which lord would you serve if you lived in Middle-earth? (You can
choose any of the lords from any of the first three ages.): not big into
serving someone based upon their lineage... had several ancestors fight to
get royalty out of my homeland.
Have you ever tried to learn to speak or write any of the languages
that Tolkien invented?: Nope.
Has Tolkien inspired you to write any stories of your own?: Inspired many a
tale that are all still stuck in my head.
Has Tolkien had any impact on the moral choices of your life? (In
other words, did you recall specific quotes from his works when you
were trying to figure out what was the right thing to do?): I try to
remember that "all that is gold does not glitter," especially when meeting
students for the first time...
Would you recommend the works of Tolkien to your friends?: Yes, and I have
Do you have a favorite Tolkien-related website?: no
What is your favorite Tolkien-related reference book?: none
What other authors has Tolkien inspired you to read?: Asimov (if the
foundation beat out LOTR for the first Hugo Award, it must be good...)
What other authors do you currently enjoy reading?: Mostly biographies and
histories. Tolkien has ruined fantasy for my because none of it measures
up. I liked the first Shanarra trilogy, and grew to like Harry Potter (the
stories, not the character, who I find annoying).
Did you enjoy any of the movies about Middle-earth?: yes, tremendously.
That is not to say that they are flawless (they are very flawed), but they
are a separate medium, and that requires changes from the original. In my
mind, Jackson made the following serious errors: The portrayal of Faramir,
the portrayal of Aragorn as the man-who-would-not-be-king, leaving out the
Numenorean blades carried by the Hobbits, changing the visual of the
witch-king, and ignoring the visual of Aragorn's standard billowing on the
ships of the corsairs. In the extended version, he has the witch king all
but defeat Gandalf, which simply would not have happened. None-the-less, I
understand the changes and can live with them grudgingly.

If it is, it will be the fault of the newsgroups themselves, for not
submitting to MORAMBAR's benignant dominion.

Name/Alias(es): Pseudonymus al-Faqha'ter, Pseudonymus Roghater
Gender: Male (jellyfish)
Age: 66.6 (jellyfish years)
Nationality: Fredonian
Posting since: 2002
Heroes: Tolkien, Mussolini, Wal-Mart, AIG, Goldman Sachs, Enron.
Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman used to be my heroes, before my research
uncovered that they had stolen all
their ideas from TOLKIEN. MORAMBAR is more than a hero; he is my
saviour.
What are your hobbies and/or interests?: World domination, oppressing
the masses, eating plankton, spamming, pyramid scams, HMOs.
Worshipping
MORAMBAR and spreading the Truth about Tolkien are missions, not
hobbies.
What do you dislike?: Balrogs, Counts, TEUNC disinformation, Jensen's
so-called FAQ, unions, the welfare state, Obamacare, fishing nets. I
*loathe*
Christopher "Tolkien" and his lies.
How did you discover the works of J.R.R. Tolkien?: I found them in
the
shipwreck of the Tolkienic; but the BUQ (Book of Unanswered Questions,
TOLKIEN's deepest revelation of His
innermost thoughts, which drive unbelievers and heretics raving mad)
was revealed to me by
MORAMBAR. Blessed be He!
Which of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have you read and which is your
favorite?: The BUQ, Tolkien's correspondence with MORAMBAR, and the
essay on why poor people suck are my favorites. I've read all that can
be scientifically attributed to
TOLKIEN, although I've only skimmed some of the letters (published by
Baron Bogusz), as they run into the
billions (and the indefatigable Baron is always discovering more!),
and I'm a busy jellyfish.
Administering this sacred Academy of Tolkien Studies is more than a
full-time job.
Which is your favorite character from "The Hobbit"? "The Lord of the
Rings"? "The Silmarillion"?: Thorin, Farmer Maggot, and Fëanor, the
heralds of the Market
Where would you live if you could dwell anywhere in Middle-earth?:
Numenor, after it had sunk
Which lord would you serve if you lived in Middle-earth? (You can
choose any of the lords from any of the first three ages.): MORAMBAR
alone do I acknowledge as Lord and Master
Have you ever tried to learn to speak or write any of the languages
that Tolkien invented?: Yes, but the field is so dominated by
Christopherite Hostetto-Saloism that I have made very little headway
Has Tolkien inspired you to write any stories of your own?: All my
writings, many of which are required reading, were inspired by
Tolkien
and MORAMBAR (apart from an early bit of juvenilia about plankton
classification)
Has Tolkien had any impact on the moral choices of your life? (In
other words, did you recall specific quotes from his works when you
were trying to figure out what was the right thing to do?): All the
time. For example, I was once faced wih the question of whether to
fire janitors for unionizing. In the end, I followed Pippin's
example,
and tore up the labor laws.
Would you recommend the works of Tolkien to your friends?:
Absolutely,
so long as FATS research has confirmed that they actually are by
Tolkien. No Christopherite garbage, please!
Do you have a favorite Tolkien-related website?: http://fats.teunc.org,
your one-stop source for TOLKIEN'S
Truth!(tm)
What is your favorite Tolkien-related reference book?: MORAMBAR'S
Guide to the interpretation of the BUQ.
For a full list of the best sources on TOLKIEN and a summary of the
most up-to-date research, see:
http://fats.teunc.org/index.php?page=tolkien
What other authors has Tolkien inspired you to read?: Ayn Rand, Roy
Campbell; Horus Engels
What other authors do you currently enjoy reading?: George W. Bush,
Jerry Springer, Ken Lay
Did you enjoy any of the movies about Middle-earth?: Yes, despite the
Christopherite influence, wholly due to the machinations of Philippa
Boyen, betrayer of MORAMBAR'S sacred intent.
Still, as MORAMBAR remarked: The Truth has never been wrapped to a
prettier package than the complete
boxed set of Jackson's movies.
Bonus question: Are you friend or foe of TEUNC, the Dark Lord of
Chaos and Strife? I used to be its foe, but TEUNC is no longer worthy
of my hate.
