Today is the 26th of July. and as the golf ball of Time rolls down the
rabbit hole of Destiny and the half-eaten Mars Bar of Fate melts in the
forgotten pocket of my new cricket whites... it's Jenny Radcliffe's
birthday. Happy birthday!

MAny Happies, Jenny!

And as for the Firedrake in cricket whites - any chance you could tone 'em
down a little? The reflected glare from so much dragon covered in brilliant
white is affecting the pirana in the ford... (and it's bad enough that some
unsufferable fool told the passing trade that the piranha were in there by
putting up a big sign at the entrance to The Village - the lads and lasses
in the ford are getting fed up with sausages, which is all I can afford to
give 'em until someone is foolhardy enough to drive through - I've taken the
sign down...)

I can't imagine who would have done such a silly thing.

Your action was certainly the right one.

I think I have a large package of shredded biltong somewhere at the back of
the shop, and nobody seems to have been buying it for some time; it doesn't
go off that I have ever discovered, so maybe I could donate it for the
pirhana? Should keep them chomping for a little while, anyhow.

Coo! Ta! They WILL appreciate that kind offer - the change of texture will
do them good, and the chewiness should keep their teeth and gums in good
condition.

Fluffy and Cuddles will be eternally grateful - in fact they have even gone
so far as t ooffer to eat (carefully, of course) any unwanted pests...
....but please don't just throw them into the Ford without warning - Cuddles
is still not quite the same since that supermarket trolley him him.

As long as there's plenty of titanium in the weave, I don't mind.

Indeed so!

If there's a sign saying "beware of the piranha" to keep grockles out,
it should surely be just outside the Lundy?

I've got some slightly used kniggits I could donate to keep the poor
blighters going...

Only one problem with that idea: biltong is very more-ish. Perhaps put
it in a fish-feeder so that they can only get at a bit of it at a time?

Um. Anyone care to translate biltong for those of us who are rather
confused as to the efficacy of this solution? Ah, that would be me for
one, and if I speak up and look stupid, that means others can look wise
and find out on the sly, so to speak.

Very kind! You're sure you can spare them? I wouldn't want you to run
short during the winter...
I'm sure the lads and lasses won't mind the occasional meal of tinned food.

I might have this wrong, but the nearest US equivalent of biltong is
probably beef jerky.
