Today I tried to log onto the myfamily.com site for the first time in
a long time. Unfortunately it is now wanting a payment of (I think)
$29.95 to "upgrade" and without it there is no access to the site,
although the site is still there. It's still sending out birthday
reminders - got one just yesterday.

Much as I'd like to just pay the fee for the group we are still trying
to recover our finances after DH being out of work for almost a year
and "extras" don't fit the budget. Anyone?

IIRC, that was the cost of having enough server space for all the
pictures and music- not per person, but for it all, and the cost of a
couple years' worth was anonymously donated. I'd guess that has now run
out.

That's about $40 Australian - sorry no sale. Sad

And I haven't heard anything from them in a long time. I wonder if
they have my correct email address. Does anyone know how to change it?

Looks as if quite a lot of us cannot afford it anymore ...

Hmm, I still get all the "Look what's happening at The ABML
Family site" eMails from MyFamily.com ...

But without being able to enter the site, you can't even check
your own data!

Plus, with our administrator (Tristaan The Ogre) 'missing', it will
take some time before we can even think of re-activating it ... Sad

Agreed - Tristaan has all the passwords, etc., for the site. I suspect we
were far over the minimum amount there. IIRC, there was an anonymous
donation to maintain the site some time ago but with Tris among the missing,
apparently this year's appeal went missing.

I had a look at the MyFamily main site today and found the following:

Standard Site ($29.95 per year)
MyFamily site with:
100 MB of space for sharing photos and other family files
Unlimited site members, all receiving Basic Site benefits
No popup ads
E-mail accounts for each site member

They advertise a free 30 day trial of the standard account, so it looks
like when we weren't watching they changed the whole scheme and it's no
longer free.

If I recall, I paid last year's fees. This year it is not
to be, as my work situation is a little "fluid" at the
moment.

As has been mentioned, I haven't had anything from them
for ages, and hadn't even noticed !

Much as i like the idea of a family site for this group, myfamily.com was
always so much trouble for me to go to. I've always thought the abml
"family" group would be much easier on yahoogroups or even as a livejournal
community (back in the day we didn't yet have lj communities though). So
I've never used it much. Think the email I'm under on the site is about 4
or 5 emails ago too.

$30 is not beyond my capabilities, should it be possible to arrange the
payment thereof...
