I recently reread the others, I can't find my copy of The Templar
Treasure.

I think it's ambiguous, I don't remember anything which directly
connected the series, although there's nothing which contradicts it
either. I would tend to assume that they are earlier incarnations (or
at least some of them) but I have a liking for series which connect
(even when the author doesn't intend it: I drew up a chart connecting
Asimov's robot stories, the independent novels and the Foundation
trilogy long before he decided to work them all together, because even
though they weren't explicitly in the same universe theycould have
been).

The Templar books are OK, my preference are the Adept and Deryni ones
but that may just reflect my tastes.
I like Scott's ones (I thought that originally three were intended, but
I see no sign of a third), I've reread them several times and that's a
good indication that I like them <g>. By comparison, I've reread the
Deryni series about the same number of times (but it's 5 times as many
books!) and the Adept series (which I usually start with Lammas Night,
even though it's only peripherally connected it's in the same universe)
about the same (5 books).
I'll leave your spoiler-protected question until either someone else
answers or I find my copy and reread it <g>...
