Post subject: Question about The Adept, book 3...
Archived from groups: alt>books>deryni (more info?)

I've just reread the first three books of Kurtz and Turner Harris'
Adept series, and the third book, the Templar Treasure left me with a
question.

As some extra space, I'm curious if there's any hint that any of the
characters in their Knights Templar books are earlier incarnations of
the Adept characters.

And are the Templar books worth reading? What about Kurtz vampire
books with Scott MacMillan?

I guess I should put in some

SPOILER

SPACE,

even though the book,

The Templar Treasure

is quite some years old.

So in the latter part of the book, two crypts are broken into, with
the remains of several Knights Templar guarding the treasures.

What was the point?

Seems to me, these Knights must have had a plan when they were sealed
in with the items they were guarding. The sister of Adam's prior
incarnation did more, and there was nothing suggesting that she had
any arcane knowledge, that she should be anything more than a restless
spirit.

We know that Adam Sinclair was a templar knight in an earlier
incarnation- believe at the time of their distruction.

For me I found the first templar book was so-so but enjoyed the second
and was looking forward to the third but it apparently has been
shelved. The vampire books were mainly written by Scott MacMillan with
Katherine editing/being a sounding board for the most part. They are
pretty good. Again fans have been anxiously awaiting the third book on
that series. From the chats I don't think it has even been plotted
yet.

Been a while since I read the Adept series so can't comment on your
specific question. Will have to go look

I recently reread the others, I can't find my copy of The Templar
Treasure.

I think it's ambiguous, I don't remember anything which directly
connected the series, although there's nothing which contradicts it
either. I would tend to assume that they are earlier incarnations (or
at least some of them) but I have a liking for series which connect
(even when the author doesn't intend it: I drew up a chart connecting
Asimov's robot stories, the independent novels and the Foundation
trilogy long before he decided to work them all together, because even
though they weren't explicitly in the same universe theycould have
been).

The Templar books are OK, my preference are the Adept and Deryni ones
but that may just reflect my tastes.

I like Scott's ones (I thought that originally three were intended, but
I see no sign of a third), I've reread them several times and that's a
good indication that I like them <g>. By comparison, I've reread the
Deryni series about the same number of times (but it's 5 times as many
books!) and the Adept series (which I usually start with Lammas Night,
even though it's only peripherally connected it's in the same universe)
about the same (5 books).

I'll leave your spoiler-protected question until either someone else
answers or I find my copy and reread it <g>...
