this book, which could have been written in 1977, when the author had logged
over 25,000 hours as a pilot. You notice the Captain's name is Scribner, and
when those twinkling eyes and that beguiling smile great you, it's apparent
that he is the same Scribner who: Drove his kiddie car down a hilly West
Virginia Street; Soloed a Taylor Cub without benefit of instruction or
license;

.. At age 16 with buddy, "Rigger Morders," was the youngest professional
parachute jumper ever;
.. Gave the Boy Scout salute when sworn in as a Navy pilot in World War II;
.. Buzzed the Cotton Bowl football game in a 747;
.. Piloted his sail plane through an outside loop.

You hope there is a reliable copilot at the controls. Then you read the last
half of the book.
