The 1971 edition had 157 pages; the 1981 had 222 and so was some 40 percent
larger.
Most of the new material was accounted for by the discovery of a Prologue to
his autobiography which Neal had written, describing the life of his mother
and father before he himself was born.
Also, a more complete version of Neal's "First Third" manuscript was
recovered, including his own hand-written revisions, as described in an
Afterword by Carolyn Cassady, and both were used in the 1981 edition.
