Having got my reading muse back. I think I was a little harsh on this
book. Times for me to pick it up again I think. There are so many
positive reviews out there I have to complete it.

I liked the gods turning up as characters, but found the book dragged,
and I'm a fast reader.

Best part of the book was the middle section portrait of central
Wisconsin and the annual pool to guess the date the junker would fall
through the ice.

I read it a while ago, based on positive reviews and hearing generally
good things about Neil Gaiman. I enjoyed it, but found that it didn't
gel. Some stuff -- the House on the Rock, the town (whatever it was
called) in winter -- were memorable but the book just didn't seem to
cohere. I decided to give him another shot, and read Anansi Boys, and
enjoyed it much more. It seemed that Gaiman was giving the overall
idea another shot, and for me the result was much more satisfying.
