The American Novel and Its Tradition, Chase

I've been surfing around reading about American Naturalism and
this title comes up often. I'm not familiar with it. From
the title I gather it is a general overview of American lit.
Has anybody read it? Is it good? Are there any other titles
similar that you would recommend?
