There's a dissection of the Honor Harrington books now going on at the
Westeros forums. It's mostly poking fun at the plot holes in the
first book so far but given what they did to Terry Goodkind, it might
be funny for some Honor fans to check it out.

The actual thread starts here http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showtopic=24253

The roasting starts on post #133. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?showtopic=24253&st=120

When I first saw "For the Honor of the Queen" in bookstores, when it
originally came out, I glanced at it given its low price, and then
quickly enough decided that this was not the sort of thing I would
enjoy.

But then, years later, I found a few of the books in the series at a
thrift shop, and gave it another chance. I ended up getting the whole
set because I really enjoyed them, finding Honor to be a very well-
written character that one felt for.

The comparison one person in that thread is making - "Sword of Truth"
in space - I find unbelievable. Terry Goodkind, in my opinion,
*deserves* the abuse that may be heaped upon him - I enjoyed the first
few books in the series, despite them being a tad heavy on the S&M,
but eventually they degenerated into political rants of obscure nature
and purpose.

Yes, I nearly missed the Honor Harrington series because David Weber
laid the Horatio Hornblower parallels on a bit too thick. I think that
At All Costs was something of a space-filler while DW gets things
ready - with Crown of Slaves, Shadow of Saganami, and their successors
- to bring HH into the real battle. But I think Honor Harrington is a
great read with perhaps a few minor problems, not the kind of junk
it's being called over there!

I agree.

Though I confess, I enjoy the fact people can poke fun at it.

I'm actually the guy doing some of the pointing out.

Ironically, it's rather painful that people use it to show what bad
books they are.

I'm pointing them out because I enjoy them and like to point out plot
holes simply because I pay THAT close attention to it.

I could talk all day about Return of the Jedi's Ewoks getting the best
of the Imperial Army.

Yet I couldn't care less about it happening in Independence Day.

I mostly enjoy poking fun at it because I find it takes itself way too
serious for how much dumb stuff is in it. I don't mind if it has no
pretensions of 'intelligence' and is dumb, but it (and the author)
acts like its a realistic, intelligent piece of scifi, but its not.

And the SWORD OF TRUTH... IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE comment of mine was a
joke. Its no where near that bad.

Nothing is.
