Ok, question here. Was going over the Infodump archives and came across some questions regarding the Imperial Guard flotilla, other units that might have been available, etc.
Here's my new question:
At one point, after the first major battle or two, they have several damaged Asgerds. Colin orders them dispatched directly to Bia.
At this point, however, we've already established "Operation Bug-Out", using the transport planetoids to evacuate millions of people from Earth. Each of those damaged Asgerds could have been manned by a tiny core of enhanced personnell (if they can run on automatic to Bia, they can run with six people to Earth and then to Bia) and used to carry an additional couple of hundred thousand people to safety? With the number of damaged ships it could easily have amounted to another million people saved, if they h
adn't been able to keep the Achuultani off Earth. >> Stay informed about: Armageddon Inheritance Q |

Well, mat-trans isn't really useful for that sort of thing anyway. And there would have been plenty of landing craft they could have used from the other ships being used for Bug-Out, plus locally-built craft and the parasite complement on the ships themselves. I'd think they would have been very useful for that project. >> Stay informed about: Armageddon Inheritance Q |

I think Earth would be limited by the amount of space available, not
by getting them up to the ships.
Regardless the ships should have been ordered to Earth. Hang around
until either ordered to Bia or the horses show up. >> Stay informed about: Armageddon Inheritance Q |

It probably wouldn't have been a bad idea to have the units stop
by Earth to be an adjunct to Operation Dunkirk, but they were damaged
enough to be considered mission-killed during a do-or-die phase of
Humanity's defense and may well likely have been uninhabitable by
non-enhanced civilians.
I'd also imagine that part of the job for the three transports
would be to enhance as many of its passengers as possible during the
run to Bia to augment the core of enhanced military during the initial
stages of the reactivation project. Severely damaged ships would
likely be unable to fulfill that role. Even _Dahak_ wouldn't have had
the capacity to enhance that many passengers in only three months'
time.
Just my two bits.

There is a lot of weapons on the outside. Those could be damaged
without compromising their ability to take passengers.

So what?
An unenhanced person who has just sat there the whole trip is still
better than not bringing him at all. >> Stay informed about: Armageddon Inheritance Q |

That's true... but it's also true that the warmoons proved capable
of still functioning - if barely - after
unsurvivable-to-the-fully-enhanced radiation damage went a 1000 klicks
or more deep.

Which could prove... unhealthy to said un-enhanced passenger
should the battle damage from multi-gigaton antimatter ordnance have
rendered them so hot as to require enhancement to survive the journey.
Recall that these were warships seriously enough damaged to have
been deemed better sent to the Bia yards than to have on-hand for the
Main Body's arrival. After Mousetrap, they sent the two worst damaged
of the beam-heavy _Trosans_ direct to Bia, knowing that the Main Body
had yet to be dealt with.
If they were _that_ effectively mission-killed, then it implies
battle damage potentially severe enough to render them unsuitable as
passenger transports. Also, being _Trosans_ meant that their life
support may not have been fully reactivated, as they seem to have
concentrated their work on the _Asgerds_.
After Laocoon, they sent _Crag Cat_, _Moir_, _Sigam_ and _Hly_ off
to the Bia yards before they discovered that the Main Body was split,
thinking that they'd already defeated the Great Visit and no longer
requiring the emergency contingency of Operation Dunkirk.
