Who says you have to put it INTO the case. It can sit on top of the case
for the few minutes it's in use, and then back into the storage shed!

I recently had the driver for my dialup die and give me the blue death
screen. I had to bootup about 4 times, wondering why F8 wasn't
working. I have a usb keyboard too and discovered even if the F-lock
was on, once it turns off or reboots the f-lock turns itself off. So
as soon as it boots back up, maybe look at that f-lock light. Smile

A quick test to see if the keyboard is usable is to bang on the CAPS LOCK
key a few times and see if the CAPS LOCK tally light toggles on and off.
It's been 15+ years since I've seen a keyboard that drove the tally directly
from the keystrokes; it should be controlled only from the keyboard driver
(or BIOS interrupt handler) at boot time. Also, some keyboards have
always-lit LEDs behind extra-function buttons; these lights are normally lit
if, and only if, the USB port is live.

One other item: some systems have a (usually documented obscurely, if at
all) feechur that allows the use of only one specific USB port for legacy
keyboard emulation. Moving a USB keyboard around the available USB ports
might resolve the problem.

A quick check for "USB keyboard doesn't work during boot" with google
turned up

http://www.devhardware.com/forums/operating-systems-18/keyboard-doesn-...ork-dur

which is dated 2004. Seems to be a common problem with "old"
computers. Mine is 2004!

Yup. Got more new parts and I'm back in business.
Now I just have to remember important bookmarks and hope that folks
email me so that I can get their addresses back.

Oh good! I'm glad it's working again. {BIG SMILE}

Thanks for replying to my post, by the way. I've been wondering if Hawai'i
Online is getting posts out to the rest of the world. Sometimes it's been
better about that than others. {Smile}

Now I feel better about composing a delurk-post. {SMILE}

Ok, nosy question here. If you are in Hawaii, I'm curious as to which
island you are on; especially as my choir and I were on Maui recently to
perform. All the way from London Ontario.....whew what a trip.

Pfui!
I have a pewter-gray mini-tower and (since not all the drives I wanted
were available in that color) deliberately had my DH put in all beige
drives. Nyah!
Floppy, CD burner, DVD player, DVD burner.
