Folk may like to know that Matthew Holness ("Garth Marenghi") will be
introducing the 1975 television version of the James and an episode of
Nigel Kneale's BEASTS at the Cornerhouse in Manchester at noon on
Sunday 30 October.

You should do a double-act. Like Erckmann-Chatrian, only with one twin
representing a horror writer now, the other, the same horror writer in
thirty years time. You could even call it "The Terrible Marenghi Twins".

I remember Ray Russell once saying that he been trying to keep the
'awful' comedian Jeremy Dyson at arm's distance after he had started
buying Tartarus Press books. I queried this, wondering why on earth he
should dislike a League Of Gentleman writer.

"Good God, you're right! I thought it was Jeremy Hardy, the man who
'speaks to the nation'!" he replied in shock horror.

I assume the Tartarus Press charm offensive swiftly kicked into action,
perhaps resulting in Dyson's collaborating with RR on the Aickman
collected edition. Amusing gaffe though.

People talk about the 'cult of the celebrity' but equally interesting
is the issue of how celebrities are themselves cultivated. I was a
bridesmaid at Molly Sugden's wedding myself, but I don't like to talk
about it.

Sounds like fun! I've accepted a story by Matthew, and exchanged several
very pleasant e-mails with him before realising who he was (Garth Marenghi
being unknown on these shores).

Can't say I blame you. Was this before you started wrestling?
