Asimov and AIDS

Forgive my ignorance, but I just learned for the first time that Asimov
died of AIDS (from a blood transfusion). He wanted to go public, but
his doctors (according to what I read) talked him out of it. His wife
revealed it 10 years after his death.

Wow! What a sign of the times (I hope), and I also hope that so
prominent a writer wouldn't be told to hide AIDS during our time.

I don't think it had anything to do with Asimov, frankly. My guess is
that they didn't want the bad publicity for themselves. Janet did wait
until the doctors had also passed on before revealing Asimov's AIDS.
