Archived from groups: rec>arts>books>tolkien (more info?)

Karen Wynn Fonstad's "Atlas of Middle-Earth" has an illustration
opposite page ix of the Introduction that shows the "circles of the
world" before and after the change at the end of the Second Age. This
is the only map I have seen of the "Round World" Arda that shows
anything beyond the northwest of Middle-earth. Are the other parts of
Arda (at least the western hemisphere of Arda) illustrated based on
JRRT's vision of the whole of Round Arda, or did Ms. Fonstad have
another source?

BTW, I strongly recommend the Atlas if you don't have it.

The only maps of Arda I know of are in The Shaping of Middle Earth, which
are pretty darn interesting. There is no real detail, mainly just
continental outlines, although one continent looks distinctly like Africa.
