Post subject: Author's Edition ???
Archived from groups: rec>collecting>books (more info?)

Yesterday morning at at tag sale I picked up a copy of
Ibaņez, Mare Nostrum, New York, E.P. Dutton & Co. The
curious thing is that it calls itself the "author's
edition". The copyright page has this statement as well as a
page preceding the title page. Otherwise, the copyright
page only states "Copyright 1919" with no other printing
information.

I have not come across the designation "author's edition"
before. What does it mean with respect to the publication
of Mare Nostrum? And does it have any general significance
in publishing?

For its general significance, see the following links from the newsgroup
archives:

I don't know that whether Mare Nostrum is any kind of special case. There
are a couple of author's edition copies of Mare Nostrum on ABE, one signed
by the author.

Thank you, John.

My copy is clearly not a signed or presentation copy. It
would be interesting, however, to see a normal first
editioni and see if there is any difference in paper quality
or construction.
