Post subject: Beat Lit Road Trips

Greetings:

Anyone on the list ever do any Beat Road trips? My compadre and I are
going to take a month off next spring and hop in the Micro Bus and
head out west. First stop probably Lawrence Kansas - WmSBurroughs.
Then Denver – NeilCassidy. Then SanFran to Haight Ashbury,
North Beach, City Lights etc – West Coast Beats. Then up the
coast to Oregon – Snyder and Kesey.

Anybody on the list live in those areas and know the cool things to
see for a Literary Beat??? Or any other places not on the itinerary
for that matter with a ‘50/’60s counter-culture
flare….

If you are going to SF, you should pick up a copy of The Literary World of
San Francisco & Its Environs by Don Herron (City Lights) or Literary San
Francisco A Pictorial History from Its Beginnings to the Present Day by
Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Nancy Peters (Harper & Row)

Don't know if they're still in print but they're easily found used at
Amazon.com, Abebooks.com, Bookfinder.com, Biblio.com, etc...

You could always come up to Washington & hike up to the Desolation fire
lookout...plan on a entire day, it's a long way up...
There are also some other places in Western Washington that are mentioned by
Kerouac.

Following the road trips of the old beats? Sounds like a great idea.
If only the highways were empty enough that one could tear down the
road a la Dean Moriarty/Neal Cassidy in "On The Road." It would be
exciting to try and retrace some of the old routes. I'd have to check
out some of the other beat authors work before I set out to do
something like this though (to find out which would be the "best" to
attempt). I've only just gotten into the beats and Kerouac is my first

The gentleman planning a West Coast tour of Beat hotspots inspired me into
an imaginative junket of my own throughout all the sites I know of. See it
