A while back (well OK, it was over 2 years ago), someone asked a question to
which the answer was "The Ancient and the Ultimate". Someone else posted a
possible answer in which a book was described as a "Built-in Orderly
Organised Knowledge" device or BOOK.
Searching the internet indicates that the "Built-in Orderly Organised
Knowledge" comes from a R. G. Heathorn article that appeared in Punch in
1962. This article does not however mention the PENCIL which was included in
the posted definition.
I haven't seen the Asimov essay but websearches indicate that he used
"Binder Of Organized Knowledge" for BOOK.
I was wondering if the BOOK definition posted two years ago (and available
widely on the Web in a couple of versions) was a conflation of the Heathorn
and Asimov articles or nothing to do with Asimov's work at all.
Thanks,
Peter.
