I know, I know.............

Anyway, does anyone actually find Scott to be the "pretty boy" type?
Wolverine has been depicted as saying that Cyclops is the pretty boy
type, but I've never been able to see it, myself. Granted, the
X-Women are the shining stars of the series (especially Storm in her
seethrough gowns), but on a team that has included Havok, Angel,
Longshot, Joseph and some of the artists' renditions of Gambit, does
anyone truly see Cyclops as a standard of male attractiveness
(beauty)? In the past, some fanfic authors were quick to use the
aforementioned term in relation to Cyclops, but it never made sense to
me, especially when you take his visor into consideration. Is the
term being used in a pejorative sense (a la X-Movie Logan) or is it
seen as an accurate portrayal of Cyclops assumed appearance. I've
read far too many manga to see Cyclops as the stereotypical "bishonen"
type. I just wanted to hear some other viewpoints.

KW!

Because Wolverine is an ugly little man.

The problem with Scott is that, like most superheroes, his physical
appearance varies wildly from artist to artist. I'm not saying Jim Lee is a
fucktard or anything, though. Only few ever remember why he's also called
"Slim". Most will draw him using the typical superhero stud prototype. So
I'd say some probably do consider him attractive. Although the fact that
he's so uptight should get in the way of it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Depends who's drawing him, and what age he seems to be this week.

That would be fair, IMHO as I would describe James Marsden as being fairly
"pretty", if asked.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

How generous of you.

Well, IIRC, he actually wasn't called that for most of his
existence and the nickname was only revived in the 1990s, not
because Scott looked slim as he was then drawn, but as a
kind of nostalgic flashback to the old days. It's a bit as if Flash
Thompson would call Peter Parker "puny Parker" these
days. As I recall, even back in 1963-64 when Jack Kirby still
drew him, Scott filled out with muscles quite nicely in a few
issues.

Compared to Logan, just about anyone is a "pretty boy" type. I wouldn't
really use the term to refer to Scott. Warren, yes.

The term "prettyboy" is pretty subjective. I mean, you have to keep
in mind the sensibilities of a culture over the years. Cyclops might
be presented as a guy in his mid-late 20s, but the character has been
around for 40 years. Who would be considered a prettyboy in the early
'60s? I can guess, but I wasn't around for the decade, so I really
don't want to venture a guess.
But we do know how Scott Summers has been presented over the decades.
He's your basic tall, dark, and handsome prototype. There's the whole
brooding thing too. Those are the features that seemed to attract
most of the women in his life, not "boyish good looks." Could he
still qualify as a pretty boy? I would venture to say yes, under a
few artists. Whilce Portacio had a habit of making all his characters
"hot." His male characters wore uniforms that acted like a second
skin, showing off every muscle. Of course, every muscle is
well-defined without adding a lot of bulk. They all had fairly soft
features, and Cyclops was no exception. Larrocca kinda has this
tendency too, positioning his characters in seductive poses and having
them look great while doing it. Remember his "Tom-Cruise-from-Mission
Impossible-II" Cyclops from the issues leading up to Morrison's run?

Heh. In all honesty though, Cyke was a pretty standard victim of the
early '90s style of art. Lee, and especially Kubert after him,
depicted "Slim Summers" as a Mr. Universe contestant.

He did, but he was always fairly lean. The guy's stats have been
listed as 6'2'' and about 175 lbs. That seems to be a little bit on
the light side, considering that he's always had a far greater
proportion of muscle to fat. Of course, his artistic depiction has
suggested a drastic deviation from 175 over the years. Hey, maybe
Cyke's just been hitting the 'roids. Smile

Well, I believe John Byrne patterned his rendition of Cyke after a young
& pretty Alain Delon.

I believe it has more to do with his personality or clean cut image
than his actual physical features. We're talking in comparison to the
lowlife thug image of Wolverine compared to the clean-cut by the book
good guy image of Cyclops.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

This reminds me of something. Doesn't anyone else think the relationship
between Sinister and Cyclops is beyond Genetics? I read one of the
backstories of the classic x-men where they showed Cyclops as a kid with
Nate(Sinister disguised as a kid). Nate felt offended when the nurse was
comforting him after getting beaten up by some bully. In the orphange, it
was implied that Nate's only friend was Scottt. I just think Sinister had
personal feelings with Scott(please don't flame on this post, but the
connection between both of them isn't consistent imo and I am not trying to
imply that Sinister is a homosexual)

There is no good in-story explanation for his ability to attract women, just
like there is no good in-story explanation for why Jean, or anyone for that
manner, would be sexually attracted to Scott Summers, apart from the odd
Sinister type who might have fun raping his unconscious body on an operating
table. Honestly, I don't understand what the hell causes the fictional
relationships that begin to begin. Seems like writers tossing dice to me.
Of course, that's not an in-story explanation, unless one says that
Wolverine's powers also involve controlling Marvel staff in such a way that
he is always written as being "the best at what he does" (except in Ennis
books), always gets to be a cool maverick type that's also noble and
insightful and tough that smokes and is dark and angsty but also strongly
principled and somehow able to defeat people like the Hulk even though he's
a little runt without super-speed and able to manage his time in such a
manner that he gets to be on three different X-teams at once while starring
in his own fucking book and whatever other books they're loaning him out to
this month and to on top of that get all the pussy that anybody who's
inclined to live his or her life vicariously through a hairy Canadian dwarf
with a comical haircut could ever want.

Of course, it could also be that he's something of an alpha male, and women
are attracted to his personality above all else. I always hear it said that
confidence is sexy, for some reason. Well, one doesn't get much more
confident than this little troll with his troll hair and his catchy phrases
and his attitude and his hairy, hairy ass.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I always thought Scott was supposed to epitomize "Mister Average", so I
tended to consider him the default Marvel male; the basic unit of male
attractiveness against which others were compared and found greater or
lesser.

So no, I wouldn't say he's a pretty boy. Just your average joe.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Perhaps, compared to Wolverine, Cyclops _is_ a pretty boy.

I don't see "pretty boys" as the standard of male attractiveness.
Still, I know what you're talking about. I think Angel and Longshot, at
least, better fit that stereotype.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Ask any female filmgoer (and a good number of male ones too) about Hugh
Jackman's appeal sometime? Smile (Okay, not the best comaprison, but a step in
the right direction)

Wolverine has effortless self confidence, charisma by the bucket and is
basically "essence of bad boy" who probably showers in testosterone, that
has a whole different sort of appeal to just looks.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

No. There have never been any personal feelings played up between
them. Nate was his only friend because it was convenient and somehow
played into his ultimate goals. Have you seen any other instances of
these so-called feelings?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
