I've created a web site where I list the typographical errors that are
increasingly rampant in published books. It's frustrating to pay $25+
and keep getting taken out of the story by careless typos.

Please visit and add your own finds to the discussion board at http://www.bookerrata.com There is one typo in a Philip K. Dick book.

Thank you,

Pat Sheehan

In _The Game Players of Titan_, the main character is seeing a doctor on Titan,
and when he realizes he's there, he jumps out the window without his coat on.
Two sentences later, he looks for ID (or something) and finds it in his coat
pocket.

I don't geddit...

"Do you know what a bounty hunter would do let loose in here?"

Is the implication that the second "do" should be omitted??

What is wrong with the sentence? I'm assuming it's the second "do", since
it's highlighted.

Hi Dave,

Yes, the second "do" is in most likely the error. I say "most likely"
only because this is an instance where either of the following sentences
is correct, though the first one makes the most sense. The sentence as
printed, though, doesn't make sense.

"Do you know what a bounty hunter would let loose in here?"
or

"Do you know what a bounty hunter would do [if he were] let loose in here?"

Works for me, too...

"If you let a bounty hunter loose in here, do you know what he would do?"
"Do you know what a bounty hunter let loose in here would do?"

and so on and so forth....

The semantics seem fine as written. Maybe the grammar isn't perfect, I'm
no expert, but it's a character speaking, so the grammar doesn't actually
matter so long as it's in line with the character's mode of speech.
