Post subject: Book ID: prehistoric man discovering things

This was a story about a prehistoric man discovering one thing after
another by chance. For instance, he discovered he could boil an egg
when he accidentally fell into a hot pond or lake, and the egg he had
with him came out cooked. I also remember he accidentally discovered
fire, but that's about it. Any hint would be appreciated. Thanks.

I couldn't find this exact description, but found a list of prehistoric
fiction...and the "Ab" series seems to fit:
