Hello all. I creep around in here a little every now and then and I was
wondering if any of you had any recommendations for books like REF. I have
read Brooks,Tolkien,Sara Douglas, and now Feist and wondered if some of you
guys can give me some more ideas of series or single books to read. Anything
is much appreciated. Thanks.

Eric

David Gemmell, the Drenai books in particular are my favourite.

I'll second David Gemmell but id also recommend Steven Erikson , Robin Hobb
, George RR Martin , Katherine Kurtz and a couple of David Eddings series
before he got too boring and repetative.

Try David Gemell.

Waylander, Legend, The first chronicles of druss the legend, etc etc

Excellent stand alone books or can be read as a series.

Also try the Earthsea Quartet by Ursula Le Guin.

I wouldnt recommend The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, until he decides to
bloody well finish what might be the longest and most boring fantasy series
ever conceived. (At least that was the state of affairs when I gave up on it
at book 7)

Terry Goodkind's Wizards First Rule is brilliant. The volumes that follow
are less and less impressive, but still worth reading.

If you don't mind science fiction mixed in with your fantasy, try Dune by
Frank Herbert and the Preludes to Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson.

David Eddings is OK, so is Piers Anthony, Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman and
JV Jones

Tad Williams' Memory Sorrow and Thorn is an excellent series.

And just in case you missed reading the Empire Series by Raymond E Feist and
Janny Wurts, do yourself a favour and read em.

I hope that keeps you busy...

This is the first time I have posted to this newsgroup and not only am very
excited to have found other fans of REF, but REF himself posts to this
board. It doesn't get any better than that.

As far as other books go, you might want to give these a try:

The "Guardians of the Flame" novels by Joel Rosenberg.

The "Renshai" trilogy by Mickey Zucker Reichert was also very good read.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is also very much worth reading.

Yes, but now looks like I'll be dead before the series finishes the way
things are going, bit like the Robert Jordan series.

It's not so bad. The TG books are a lot more self contained, with
each book having its own story that it resolves within the story of
the entire series.
