Is the size of a book given as the size of its pages or the size of its
boards? I see many book dealers on the internet using board size but, for
ex. The Limited Editions Club describes its books using the page size.

Strictly it should be page size IIRC, but in any case I think it's best to
specify "page dimensions" or "binding dimensions" in a description.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thank you for your answer. I wholeheartedly agree with you, but note that
many internet dealers provide a size without specifying to what it refers.
Often I have a book without a jacket and, when I see a larger size given, I
can't be sure whether I have a book club edition or the size refers to the
boards.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
