It's not that unusual. Doubleday did a few years of 2000 hardcovers,
however, with simultaneous trade paperbacks. Walker mysteries and SF had
very small runs, hardcover only, although most of what they published is
forgettable (with a few spectacular exceptions.)
I happen to have a 1st I bought new, but I feel it is not a good long-term
"investment" (not that I care.)
