Today, I found a signed first edition, first printing of Dan Brown's Digital
Fortress at a local thrift store. Unfortunately it's also signed by the
previous owner. I've heard, though that particular print run was only 600
copies. That seems a bit low for St Martin's. Has anyone heard a different
figure?

My information (two scources) is that the the intial print run was for 3000 copies,
many of which were hoarded by the residents of Dan Brown's home town.

Thank you, Dick, I also heard, just today, the 3000 figure from a friend who
specializes in Mystery/Thrillers.I appreciate you getting back with your info.
I just could not imagine a 1998 first trade edition having so few copies
printed.

It's not that unusual. Doubleday did a few years of 2000 hardcovers,
however, with simultaneous trade paperbacks. Walker mysteries and SF had
very small runs, hardcover only, although most of what they published is
forgettable (with a few spectacular exceptions.)

I happen to have a 1st I bought new, but I feel it is not a good long-term
"investment" (not that I care.)
