Two great brags today:
(1) I received a previously mentioned brag in the mail today:
[Fr. Zephyrinus Engelhardt] *Omanomineu Kachkenohamatwon Kesekoch, Katoklik
Anamihau Masenachigon* (St. Louis: B. Herder, 1882), which I noted was
described by its seller as a Ojibwee missionary text is in fact likely the
first book published in Menominee, an American Indian language of the Algic
family spoken in Minnesota and Wisconsin (see Pilling 4303a).
The brag is that the seller did not mention that the book is signed and
inscribed by Fr. Zephyrinus to his teacher, another Franciscan friar named
Servatius. A similar presentation copy (although I think mine is
better--better association and better condition) was sold at the Siebert
sale at Sotheby's in 1999. The estimate on that copy was $200-$400
(although it only went for $172):

This prayerbook and the interesting Catholic sample book I recently found
are encouraging me to expand my Catholic Americana collection past my
terminal date (c. 1840).
(2) I've found a new thrift store, which if nothing else has quick and
voluminous turnover of material. This evening amidst some decent trade
fodder, I found for $1.59:
David Mamet, *Some Freaks* (NY: Viking, 1989), 1st ed., NF/NF, signed by
Mamet on the ffep.
I'm a Mamet fan, so this might be a keeper.
