Specifically, that of my darling daughter, who was assigned to write =20
about her back yard. Here, in her own words, is a description of same...

Elizabeth (exceedingly proud Mum)

My backyard is an obstacle course.
When I walk out onto my leaf-encrusted, wooden porch, the first
thing I see is our old, blue, shredded plastic kiddie pool and black,
rusted outdoor fireplace where we burn branches. I love it when we
do, because I love the smell of wood smoke and the warmth. Our green,
snake-like hose lies coiled next to it.
Past the porch is a hill with a staircase in the middle, one =
half
covered with green ivy, except for a thin brown line where we killed
it by walking on it last winter, and a dense thicket on the other
side. On top of the hill are lots of trees. There used to be a picnic
table there too, but it collapsed on itself. Now, it=92s just a pile of
peeling, dull red wood.
On the right side of the yard, there is an old, dying apple tree =
I
love to climb. It still produces apples, and when they=92re ripe, I
pick them and eat them. They=92re crisp, and the ice cold juice cools
my throat.
On the left side of the yard, there is my mom=92s flower garden. =
When
the flowers bloom in the spring and summer, they look so pretty with
their bright pink, yellow, red, and orange petals unfurled like
banners, reaching toward the sun like fingers toward a chocolate chip
cookie. At the end is a patch of chickweed, a plant with bright green
stems and snow-white blossoms.
That=92s what my backyard obstacle course looks like. I like to =
play
on it when it=92s nice out.
