This past Saturday I got to attend and have limited participation in a
preist's Ordination. I belong to the Knights of Columbus and we led the
Bishop, priests and the Deacon who was about to be ordained into the church.
We then stood with swords raised in salute as the Bishop and party came into
the church and approached the altar. At the end of the Mass we again stood
with swords raised in salute as the bishop and party left the church and
then followed them out. During the actual ordination I was thinking about
what it must have been like for Camber's family to see their father become a
priest. I had only met the new priest about 30 minutes before he was
ordained, but knew his parents since my wife had worked with his father when
he was the head of Radiology and his mother and mine are Secular
Franciscans. Hats off to Katherine for her research in the Ordination
Sacrament. When I reread the chapter in Saint Camber about his ordination,
it mirrored almost exactly the modern Ordination right. The differences
being that it is now in English or the local language and the Deryni aspect.
This ordination, like Camber's was done outside the Cathedral. In Saint
Camber it was for obvious reasons, while the one I attended was done in the
parish of the newly ordained priest's parents. He requested that it be done
there.
