Has there been more than one edition[*] of this novel? I'm asking because some
people have been bitching about the Spanish edition having less paragraphs than
the English one an blame it on the editors arbitrarily mutilating it, however
I'm considering the possibility that they may have simply used a different
edition as a reference...

[*] and by "more than one edition", I mean the contents actually being edited,
not just the book being reprinted at a different date or by a different
publisher without any changes...

I don't know the answer to your question in terms of whether changes were
made but there were several editions of The Caves of Steel.

It originally appeared as a serial in Galaxy in 1953 and was first published
in book form in 1954 (see isfdb.tamu.edu). There was a book club edition in
the same year (see list at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.asimovonline.com" target="_blank">www.asimovonline.com</a> for list of US editions). It
was also published in the UK in 1954 and it is possible the English edition
differs from the US ones.

So, that gives four possibly different editions that the Spanish version
might be based on. But, as I said, I don't know if they were different.

Peter.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thanks anyway; though that isn't a definitive answer, it certainly opens the
possibility. Certainly, the person doing all the bitching claims to have
checked the book club edition... which I've heard often *are* different from
the "regular" editions. This person also once claimed that the English language
edition of _Robot Visions_ didn't feature any essays (just the short stories)
and that the Spanish editors had decided to add them, while I've confirmed the
existence of at least one English, one German and one Italian edition which
*do* have them, and another time she also claimed that the Spanish edition
of _The Complete Robot_ didn't have the same contents as the original (which
I proved to be nonsense, since I actually own that book and could match the
table of contents with the one she listed without any differences at all).
