This an ad or a call for direct action?

Chuck Austen, the only writer I can imagine, whose signature would probably
devalue a book.

Wouldn't any signature devalue a book? I know I sure as hell wouldn't pay extra
for it.

Only if it doesn't come with a certificate of authenticity.

Presumably a certificate from a recognised source, at that.

"Hey, how do I know that signature's genuine?"

"Why, simple. I have here a certificate of authenticity bearing the
same signature."

"Well, I'm convinced. Have five hundred dollars!"

Those early issues of AVENGERS vol. 3 that George Perez was kind enough to sign
for me in 1999 aren't devalued at all through his signature, where I'm
concerned, in spite of not coming with a certificate.

The only regret I have about them, actually, is that I was so flabbergasted to
find the artist of my favorite superhero series at the time sitting in a small
German comic store not far from my hometown large as life that I forgot to ask
him if he'd personalize the signatures.

I wouldn't want to sell those, either, for that matter.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. I like getting comics I've enjoyed
signed if I see the creator in person, mostly as a memento. I have no
interest in selling them, and not much interest in buying ones from
someone else.

Chuck Austen leaves - Officially confirmed by Austen himself in a Newsarama interview:- http://www.newsarama.com/pages/Marvel/Austen_Leaves.htm Final issue is X-MEN #164, which would be the end of his second story arc after Reload. According to Austen, he's leaving..
