So we have many examples of the bridge crew running simulated combat
scenarios actually using the bridge rather than a simulator (a good idea
- the simulator will be a generic thing and each bridge will have its
'personal' quirks). However, it does mean that the crew involved is not
attending to the Real Space safety of the ship and I can't see the
Admiralty being real sympathetic to a captain that lost their ship
because he had tied the systems up with a simulation.

So what do they do? Put a real watch in to the auxiliary bridge? Let the
computer over ride the sim if something out of the normal parameters
shows up (I can see a less experienced crew suddenly having to face a
real ship rather disturbing and even with the best crew, there would be
a brief hesitation between sim and real reactions)?

Over to you!

  All joking aside, Roger?

I can't recall when they've ever run bridge-wide sims _on_ the
bridge.

I know Rafe was doing his tactical problems on _Fearless_'s bridge
while Honor was using his sim as real-time source for her own
practice, but this was done while in a parking orbit, before they got
wind of a real tactical situation developing below.

I don't think we've seen more than one or two department-specific
sims being run on the bridge.

It's not like Lt. Panowski would be doing navigation training sims
while they were in-system, en route to Medusa from the Terminus.

When they want to do a full-up, all-systems sim, they'd use the
dedicated simulators.

The one with Shobhana in charge of the Gauntless in the short story "In
the Service of the Sword" in _The Service of the Sword_ (phew!) was on
the bridge (I think!) and it seemed to involve most of the Bridge crew.

Well, given that in combat most (all?) Manticoran ships of the wall put the
exec on the aux. bridge, and the captain on the main bridge, I'd hazard
that...

They stick the exec on the aux. bridge, running the ship, while the captain
and current bridge crew play Wing Commander MMCCXIII* on the tac plot. Smile

  Thanks.

I'll have to reread that one.

I admit to sort of glazing over with some of the short stories.
