I have never heard of this, and it seems strange. "Tattoo marks"
implies something random though, like the markings that the miners had
from coal dust getting into open wounds. Surely Meyers or Bowker would
have mentioned it, as they enjoy going into physical detail - such as
the fact that he was uncircumcised. Note too that on Orwell's identity
card for Morocco, under "marques particulières apparentes" it is left
blank. And looking at the many photographs which include his hands, I
see nothing that would indicate any tattooing. The Vernon Richards
book is probably the best source for this, but other photos (like the
one of Orwell writing in Marrakech) show no marks.

These documents could inspire a new Orwell biography *The George
Orwell Scrapbook* with pull-out replicas of documents, authentic
looking press clippings on newsprint, an exact reproduction of 'the
list' in Orwell's own handwriting, etc. Orange spine of course,
glossy photo glued to the cover, a caption: contains rare photographs,
handwritten essays, and more.
