hey,

I bought this book because I liked the plot in the back cover. I had
knew nothing about Connelly before.
I found this novel extremely entertaining, such a grabber it was really
painful to put it unfinished on the bedside table each night.
Right after finishing it, I got Void Moon, which in the very first pages
looks rather less thrilling.
I do not contemplate going on with the Bosch collection now. So, what
are his other "standalone" great books?
And in case I'd like to plunge into the Bosch universe, should I start
from the beginning? and which one is it?

thx

The Poet and Blood Work are two stand-alones.

However, in later works Connelly sometimes combines characters from earlier
works along with Bosch, which make for great reading.

IMO, the Bosch books should be read in order since there is so much
development of Bosch and other characters through the years. The first is
The Black Echo (an Edgar winner), followed by Black Ice.

Does the serial killer mentionned in Chasing the dime come from the
Bosch universe? (no spoiler plz)

Thanks. But I find that the style is VERY different between Void Moon
(pretty wordy) and CTD (swift pacing). What is closer to his usual
style?

I feel like I'll start with the stand-alones and then attack with The
black echo. Great readings ahead.

I actually don't remember any earlier characters popping up in Chasing the
Dime, but if there's a reference to somebody, it likely is an earlier
character.

I've never thought of Connelly as wordy, and it's been some time since I
read Void Moon, so maybe Chasing the Dime is more the norm. Bosch does go
through substantial changes from the first book to the most recent, The
Narrows, very realistic and normal changes, which I wouldn't have enjoyed as
much myself had I not read the books in order.

BTW, Blood Work was made into a movie with Clint Eastwood, who was too old
for the role he was in and which plays a part in The Narrows.

Bosch has to be read in order. In the same week.

Cheers, B.
