Hi all,
Any fans of Patricia Cornwell or Kathy Reichs? Both have female characters
who reflect what they both do in real life - involving forensic criminology.
Are there are other similar authors with lots of medical detail and mystery
as well? I am currently reading Dennis Lehane but nearly finished and need
to move onto a new author! (Lehane is FABULOUS) Other favorites I have read
all books are Ann Rule and Robin Cook.
Happy reading!
Marty

I read and enjoy both; in fact I just finished Reich's new one, Bare Bones.
But, their backgrounds aren't all that similar. Reichs IS a medical
examiner, as is her character. Cornwall doesn't have the medical training
or the examiner experience; she worked in a medical examiners office, as
technology support. IMHO, Cornwall has gone long past her prime and is well
on the way down; the last one of her's I read (can't recall the name, but
about an island with people living like in the 1700s) was so bad, I thought
it was a joke; or, she had a falling out with her publisher, but owed them
one last book and stuck them with a DOG.

Reichs rules the genre today.

Cornwell didn't do what Scarpetta does. She worked in the office.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

hehehehe ....It was "Isle of Dogs" I believe and I could not get through it.
I prefered the "Kay Scarpetta" character anyway. I really think Cornwell is
a better writer than Reichs, but maybe she has run out of ideas. Oh yes,
"Bare Bones" was terrific. Cornwell has a new one coming out in October (on
order at Barnes and Noble) - called "Blowfly" which I will read. So do you
know of any other similar writers who draw on their experience? Before
Lehane I was reading Jeffrey Deaver and he is pretty satisfying - I like the
Lincoln Rhyme series ("Bone Collector" - made into a movie with Denzel
Washington)

Happy reading,

Hi Jon!
Thanks! Someone else pointed out that to me as well - I knew she had
something to do with the ME but thought she was more like Reichs who seems
to "be" her character. I still prefer Cornwell's writing with plenty of gory
detail Smile When she stopped the Scarpettas and did the Andy Brazils - well I
did not enjoy them nearly as much - "Blowfly" will be out next month and I
am hoping it will be another Scarpetta - but may be a standalone. Anyone
know more?
