Frost actually had made the best impression. But Phoenix/Jean
telepathically changed their minds, and so they sent Kitty to Xavier's. >> Stay informed about: Cyclops and the White Queen, unfit to teach? |

Thanks, had forgotten about that aspect... and it was in the first X-Men
comic I ever read too, "The Dynamic Debut of the Dazzler".... . >> Stay informed about: Cyclops and the White Queen, unfit to teach? |

But they ARE a freakshow. So were he and Jean. So are all the mutants.
That's the part Cyclops' inversion and passivity always hides him from, but
why not embrace it, fully? He can do something normal people can't do, and
he's been doing it for so long he's great at it. So worship the difference,
don't keep trying to hide it.

There's also the question of how many of these students even have parents. I
haven't been reading New Mutants/New X-Men, but most of the kids in the
Morrison run whose family situation's are discussed seem to be orphans or
runaways (Beak and Angel, plus whatevers up with the Cuckoos, who were
involved with Weapon Plus) Many of those who do have parents probably have
situations where their parents are scared of the whole mutant thing and
keeping them at arms length. Which brings up an interesting point, if
Xavier's is the equivalent of a Queer-positive high school, is someone
running something similar to the fundy Christian Gay re-education
camps/schools that some parents send their kids to when they find out? I'm
thinking a place where people are taught to never use their powers under any
circumstances or even use drugs to suppress them. That could be an
interesting story.

Yeah, obviously some kids have parents who are interested, but I'd hazard a
guess that around half the student body either don't, or have parents who
want nothing more to do with them.

Just took a quick look at the character profiles, out of 12 New Mutants and
Hellions, 5 are orphaned or basically disowned, 4 have at least somewhat
accepting families, 3 have an unknown background (or at least I couldn't
find it, it was a quick look)
