This book titled, (Lucky Forward, The History of Pattons Third U.S. Army),
by Colonel Robert S. Allen is in excellent condition. It is published by The
Vanguard Press, Inc., New York, First Edition, Copyright 1947. The book is
424 pages and is dedicated to the soldiers of the 3rd Army who gave of
themselves in the service of their country. The book provides a history
account of the Third Army from its formation to mobilization and embarkation
to the European Theatre of Operations. The book highlights the Corps which
made up the Third Army, (the XII Corps, XX Corps, VIII Corps, III Corps, XV
Corps, and V Corps) and includes the Normandy Landing at Omaha and Utah
Beach, St. Malo, Angers, St. Nazaire, Le Mans, Argentan; past Paris to Metz,
across the Rhine River into Germany to Kassel, Chemnitz, Plauen, Pilsen,
Regensburg, and onto Linz. Of the unit, there were 19 Medal of Honors
awarded, 44 Distinguished Service Medals, 291 Distinguished Service Crosses,
and 4,990 Silver Stars. The book measures 6 1/2 inches x 9 1/2 inches. It is
in excellent condition with no loose or missing pages, no tears, no soiling
or water damage, or any other damage.
