I seem to remember a passage in the LotR in which the Riders of Rohan cried
out "Death!" several times as a battle-cry before charging into a battle
(Helm's Deep? Pellenor Fields?). Now thumbing through the books, I can't
find that anywhere. Did I imagine this or transfer it in my memory from
elsewhere?

Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!

It is also yet another awe-inspiring scene by Tolkien.

That's it. What page please? Or, since we probably have different editions,
what chapter?
Thanks!

It's in The Battle of the Pelennor Fields. In the Balentine paperback
edition it's on page 118.

Battle of the Pellenor Fields, right after Theoden dies, and Eomer
mistakenly believes Eowyn has perished as well. Let us know how the
book report goes. ;^)

In the movie, before the Rohirrim ride to battle at Pellenor Fields, Theoden
rides along the line hitting his sword on their spears. Then he shouts three
times, each time the Riders shout in reply. Are they shouting "Death"?

IIRC correctly, there is a scene in the RotK movie trailer where
Éomer is embracing someone on the Pelennor, wailing. I assumed
it was this segment from the book. Guess it might make the
Extended Edition of RotK on DVD.
