OI!!!
QTOD was pretty damned good considering they only had 2 months to shoot,
edit etc before the option to the rights ran out.
Of course, I am extremely biased as not only was *I* an extra, plus all the
other extra's in Melbourne are my friends in the Melbourne Goth Scene...and
yes, they were all "ashamed" of being in the movie because of the panning it
received.
But let's just look at things.
It was made in a rush.
"Big Ben" was superimposed to the Flinders Street Railway station in
Melbourne (*giggle*), Marius' home in Rome was also superimposed onto one of
the 12 Apostles (huge sandstone rocks in Bass Strait), the concert didn't
even FEATURE Aaliyah or the others, was actually out near Werribee, involved
us standing there all night into the wee hours of the morning raising our
hands, listening to the same song over and over again. Waving at the Fluffy
Green thing (which represented the actors on stage - Lestat et al).
to be honest, I did like the way they made Melbourne look so cosmopolitan, I
also have to admit that Aaliyah's .... sinuous walk made me pretty hot when
I saw the movie.
Aside from that, we received some really cool "souvenirs" as well as pay for
some people just for being a part of it. Including free tickets to the
opening in Melbourne. I have several friends who have all their QTOD stuff
now as collectors items - tshirts, glow in the dark stuff, video/dvd, copies
of the tickets and invitations to various bits.
It was rather exclusive and if you WEREN'T on the list, unless someone let
you use their pass, you just didn't get on sets.
To me, watching the movie and seeing people I know wafting around was the
best bit.
*grin* but NEVER should they have let Matthew Newton act in it (even though
he was only at the end, with those long blonde locks). He is NOT his
father - Bert Newton, Australian talk show icon Channel 10.
ummm gosh that was a rant!
