Design in Fabric and Thread
by Aileen Murray

Fabrics and threads provide a wonderfully varied and exciting range of
colors and textures with which to experiment. Fabric collages may be simply
and easily made in a few hours, or may be developed with the richer detail
of embroidery, including the use of string, beads, raffia, seeds, etc. This
book describes the very wide range of materials available and suggests many
ways in which they can be used to produce designs in collage and embroidery.
The author discusses sources of inspiration, ways of beginning a design and
possible further developments, including stitchery by hand or machine, and
describes how to mount or frame the finished work. The different methods and
experiments described are fully illustrated with color and B&W photos which
provide a further source of ideas and indicate the enormous variety of
approach and treatment possible with these materials.

Watson-Guptil Publications, New York, 1969, 104 pages, 4 ¾” x 7 ½”, glossy
decorated boards, no dust jacket, illustrated.
