Hello.

I´m a spanish reader of Bukowski. I´ve readed all the books he´s published
in Spain, edited by Anagrama. I would like to know: Is he the father of
american dirty realism? He´s well known here, but I supose there´s a lot of
writers in that style in EEUU. Any more famous than him there?

We´ve read here to people like Carver (well known as well), Selbi (nearly an
unknown writer in Spain), Hunter S. Thompson (the same as Selbi), the cuban
Pedro Juan Gutiérrez... other contracultural writers: Henry Miller, Kerouac,
John Fante...

Any more you like?

What about Harry Crews? I´ve haven´t readen anything by him. He´s not been
published in my country.

Thanks

Hi,

Sounds like we have the same library!

While Bukowski is, in my mind, the founder of of american dirty realism,
as you put it, he is generally read more in Europe than U.S. You may
want to look into the following authors and/or titles:

Cormac McCarthy's ~Child of God
anything by Knute Hamsun (this was one of Bukowski's favorites)
Tom Wolfe's~Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test
Iceberg Slim~Pimp (afro-centric bio)
Kurt Vonnegut~Breakfast of Champions and Slaughterhouse Nine
Jack Kerouac~On the Road (he is regarded as a major founder of "beat"
literature, which paved the way for writers like Buk)

HOpe ya have fun! And let me know of any Spanish writers who are
similar, you necisito practicar leer en espanol!

And you know, morrisiaco, Bukowski is simply not given the respect and
attention he deserves by both the literary and mass crowds. I don't
know why--he is one of bravest writers I've read. I actually did my
senior thesis in college about "Ham on Rye".

Thanks.

I´ve read most of the writers you noted down, except Iceberg Slim.

Respect spanish writer in this style, there´s a poet I like much: David
González. He was in prision for a while and there he started to write poems.
He´s in the stile of Bukowski. Another writer, some years ago very famous,
is Miguel Ángel Mañas. His first novel was Historias del Cronen. Another
writer is Ray Loriga, but more in the style of Kerouc, whom he likes a lot.
We have a spanish web of Bukowski ran by another writer, Sergi Puertas. The
link is: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/5855/main.html" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/5855/main.html</a>
He had there two novels of John Fante because he was out of catalogue. Now
Anagrama has published them.

Amigo Mr Bliss, si quieres practicar tu español, hay un foro de literatura

Busca en google si quieres, hay varias webs desde donde puedes visitar el
foro.
Smile

see you

You might want to give Benjamin Weissman and T.G. Fleming a try.
They're both a little on the surreal side, but dirty as they get.

Here's a T.G. Fleming link:
