Just picked up "The Draco Tavern" paperback (since I've only known
about the "Known Space" stories up 'til now), and as I'm reading it,
I'm thinking, "Boy! /Everybody/ comes to Rick's, don't they!"

Which made me think of "Casablanca"!

You've got an upscale club in a remote location, run by a guy named
Rick, which serves as a "neutral zone" for all manner of intriguing
(though mostly extraterrestrial) types.

That's where the similarities end, I think.

I'm only a few stories in, but I'm pretty sure there's not going to be
any long-lost love from Rick's past showing up, now married to a
Chirpithra or a Gligstith(click)optok. (She might've been /eaten/ by a
Glig, but...)

I did some Googling and, apparently, I'm the only one to see a
connection.

Am I alone?

The Draco Tavern belongs in the "Bar Stories" genre where unusually tales
are told in the Bar/Tavern/Pub/Club. You'll find plenty of this type of
stories that predate "Casablanca". For that matter, "Casablanca" doesn't
really fit into the same genre as "Draco Tavern". Rick's Place is where the
action of the story occurs. Very little action occurs in Draco Tavern (or
the White Hart etc), but we hear about the action in the
Bar/Tavern/Pub/Club.
