I saw it last night and was not disappointed. King's stories are very
detailed and protracted which makes the suspense overwhelming. That is
why they don't translate into movies very well.

I think people who did not read the book might have lost the storyline
when the character was trapped in the storage room.

In the book, I thought the detainees escaped and were not rescued by
the regular army from the blue squad?

Kurtz pursued them in a humvee in the book not a copter.

I thought the movie was very short?

The only King movie I thought translated well to film was Storm of the
Century. They must be made long enough to be in two parts.
King is still the best!

IMHO, I think Shawshank, Green Mile, The Body, Cujo and a few more translated
rather well to film. Not too mention that Storm of the Century was only written
as screenplay.

The Green Mile was the most perfect translation from page to film of any
Stephen King work that I can think of. It was very true to the original
story, and very little was left out. I agree with your general assertion,
however, that most of his novels don't translate very well in a 2-3 hour
film. Usually a lot of important detail has to be sacrificed to meet the
time restrictions of a feature film.

I think the TV versions of The Shining and The Stand were excellent as well.

It's one of my favorites... thanks Mark!

Dude, they made Duddits an ALIEN. That was the most ridiculous invocation of
dramatic license since.... since....

....since Jack Torrence froze to death in the middle of a topiary maze.

I was tempted, for only the second time, to ask for my money back, but
whenever the thought crosses my mind I always try to remind myself that the
theater isn't responsible for the content of the film so why should they
take a financial loss over it?

It was very tempting nonetheless. The only one I've seen recently that was
worse was "Hearts in Atlantis" which only covered the first half of the
book, rendering the very title nonsensical. If they had just called that one
something like "Beware of the Low Men" I could have excused it, but....

Dreamcatcher - This is a weird book. I'm not sure if it's something between Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Alien. I'm a quarter of the way through. Does it get weirder? Anyone read it and can recommend I continue. I guess I will just to find out what the hell is..

Dreamcatcher Again. (Spoiler) - What the hell? Pennywise lives? Is this based in the IT universe? Whats the deal with that reference.

Dreamcatcher [Spoilers] - Dreamcatcher What an *excellent* story! Written with a pen. Duddits has to be SK's finest hero. Tome

DT V related King books, according to King... - On the list of King's books that precedes the title page, there are a number of books which have been 'boldfaced' and noted at the bottom as 'Dark Tower related.' Many of them, we already knew, such as The Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, Hearts of Atlantis,..
