I've always wondered. I know Edmund missed out on seeing Santa Clause.
But why did he never LATER get a gift? Or why didn't he take up his
brother's sword when he left.

Maybe he did. UYnless CSL said he didn't. (Can't remember.)

Don't remember that bit. I see I have to read LWW again. But I'm not going
to see the darn film. That always spoils a book you like.

Please note that it was Father Christmas who met the others, not Santa Claus
(no final e).

They have different spheres of operation. Father Christmas came from the Old
English mystery plays, hence he is specifically British. Santa Claus aka
St. Nicolas is a German immigrant into the lands on the far side of the
Pond.

I expect for a lot of USian readers it's a case of "In your world I have a
different name." Smile

Or do they meet, somewhere where the mountain ridges join?

LWW was a childen's tale and not a carefully thought out scholarly tretise.
Thats the main reason.

Nothing so mundane.

>Or, for that matter, wht *do* you mean?

Toward the end of THE LAST BATTLE, they see the mountain they are on is one
ridge of a larger mountain, and England (or more real Platonic England) is
another ridge of it. Maybe America is over there somewhere too, and Father
Christmas will later meet Santa Claus, farther up and further in.

But I think that's as unlikely as Aslan meeting Jesus....

By the time Edmund was freed, it was spring, so Father Christmas would no
be operative.

All 4 children left Narnia at the same time at the end of both the book
and the movie, so how would Edmund take up Peter's sword?

I thought that Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy all left Narnia at the same
time, so how would Edmund take up Peter's sword?

In "Voyage of the Dawn Treader", Edmund and Lucy went to
Naria without Peter or Susan. I don't recall if there
was any later mention of Peter's sword.

Edmund is the Just, because he knows injustice first hand. Edmund gets
no gift - his reward is intrinsic like that of the Levites. (They get
no inheritance in the land - Numbers 1Cool

In Prince Caspian, while Peter and Lucy are collecting their gifts from
the treasure chamber at Cair Paravel, Lewis refers in an aside to
Edmund's lack of a gift: "this was his own fault", implying that this
was part of the punishment for his treachery in LWW.

I expect that Father Christmas would have come every year since the death
of Queen Jadis. Why didn't Edmund get any gifts then. Why didn't Lucy ask
for refills on her cordial?
