Is there any way to fit the Dark Beast or time in an asylum in it?

The short answer is no, at least not as those scenes were originally
written. The series was apparently going to explain them in the end,
but since it's been axed with issue #18, it probably won't get around to
it.

The Dark Beast stuff probably remains canon, with Emma's age racked up a
year or two. The stuff about Emma being in an asylum seems to be
discredited, presumably on the basis that Emma was lying when she
recounted that story.

I didn't think she talked about it so much as she thought about it.

No, the original flashbacks are all scenes of Emma talking to the
Generation X kids and relating bits of her past. I suspect the idea may
have been that she was cannibalising Christian's past to come up with
suitably touching stories for the kids.

Unfortunately, Emma's claim to have been thrown out of the house and put
in an institution is also confirmed by the narrator in GENERATION X #-1,
which may have been overlooked.
