I have now read two reviews of the movie Eragon. I have not seen the
movie, or read the books for that matter, so these comments are
entirely about the reviews.

Both reviews go to great lengths comparing it to The Lord of the Rings
and the Harry Potter books and movies.

But with all the parallels made to other books, no mention is made that
the connection between dragon and rider in Eragon seems to have been
lifted from the Pern series.

They both seemed surprised that a book written by a teenager, for
teenagers, reads as if it was written by a teenager, for teenagers.
Imagine that.

Having read the reviews, I will probably take my teenage son (and his
girlfriend) to see it; and I will watch it and enjoy.

And I doubt they've mentioned Dragon Heart.

But still... Harry Potter and LOTR? HOW are they similar? I fail to see it
I guess.

I will be seeing it when I can buy it off ebay for cheaper than a movie
ticket. Smile

They're both fantasy movies and books before that. They have a cult
following. Doesn't that make them similar?</end sarcasm>

Athena-Goddess is fairly keen to see it. She's a MASSIVE Draco-phile.
Since her birthday is coming up (she turns 12 on January 4th) we'll
probably see it then.

And as long as they keep practicing their CGI dragons on other movies,
when they make the Pern movie(s) we can expect decent looking dragons.

By god then I should also compare most of the anime I watch to LOTR and
Harry Potter. After all, most anime was manga form before it went to the
movies.

I love dragons as well but... this movie, at least from what I have read and
seen on the site, isn't really about the dragon but about it's rider.

Come one, give us a movie just about dragons for once.

Dragon Heart- evil, evil dragons! oh wait, no they're good! and here's the
last one... oh well *slays draco*
Reign of Fire- evil, evil dragons! kill kill them all. yaay they're all
dead.
Eragon- i'm a cute actor who uses the last dragon to save my empire!
George and the Dragon- let's save the princess! oh look the last dragon...
