Well, it does say she can be surprised.

Of course it is somewhat amazing that Storm has consistently been able
to surprise Callisto lately. Callisto might under Claremont be the
(eventual) best fighter in the world, but she's apparently also pretty
short-sighted. Then again, it is only Claremont's pet Storm that is
beating her. Though I'm sure Claremont's new pet Sage would beat her as
well. >> Stay informed about: Excalibur #2 |

Storm has binocular vision
She also has wind-powers to move herself in unusual, unseen
ways. Even in small tunnels.

The spin I was going to use in my fanfic of a decade ago was that
Callisto's power was related to her eye ... which was put out by her
frightened parents when her powers manifested. >> Stay informed about: Excalibur #2 |

Storm is just an intuiter tactical grandmistress....

It's also somewhat possible that Callisto's tactical genius doesn't extend
well to personal one-on-one combat, but rather managing a group of other
forces effectively.

Maybe that ability to psionicly sense air currents (even when blinded or in a
blizzard) helps her.

Not from how Claremont has been writing her. The narrations in
Excalibur, as well as for the Callisto/Storm fight in arena seem to
specifically cover one-on-one fighting. >> Stay informed about: Excalibur #2 |

Kind of like Vyking in "Strikeforce Morituri", he could always psionically
sense where his team-mates (or any other Morituri) were in relation to
himself, making him an excellent team co-ordinator. >> Stay informed about: Excalibur #2 |

But Storm wasn't able to use her powers during their first battle
(Uncanny 170).
Y'know, I'm pretty sure that CAllisto's "tactical power" is a recent
addition and in the past her power was described as basically
'Wolverine-lite' - enhanced senses and reflexes. >> Stay informed about: Excalibur #2 |
