With the end of Messiah CompleX and the exciting new directions of the
mutant-verse, I realized the other day that this is the first time in
more than 8 years that I've been incredibly excited about all the X-
Men titles. I've been enjoying Uncanny (especially after Bru's intro
year long story). X-Men under Carey--especially during the crossover--
was great. And X-Factor has been a consistently good book. Following
the crossover, I'm looking forward to X-Force, Young X-Men, and X-Men:
Legacy as well as the other 3. Heck, from the solicits of Wolverine,
I might even check out that book as well. I don't remember the last
time I was excited about reading the majority of the x-books.
Hopefully they all turn out to be great reads.

Tony

I'm pretty optimistic as well. I haven't enjoyed the books this much since
the end of Grant Morrison's run. Brubaker and Carey have both been good,
but somewhat directionless. Now that they do have a direction, I think
they'll be even better.

Strangely, I think I may be about to drop every X-related book that
I get.

Not entirely because of how the future looks though. Rather, I've
been coasting for a bit on books, and post-Messiah Complex looks like
it will make a pretty good jumping off point.

I don't want to buy X-Force. I like some of the characters in it,
so I probably would buy it. But I don't care about the Purifiers,
nor am I thrilled by the purpose of the book. Plus, isn't this where
Kyle & Yost are going? After their New X-Men, I'd rather avoid any
book with them.

Young X-Men might be tempting, but despite buying New X-Men, I
honestly don't care that much about any of the characters. It isn't
hatred, but more some form of general apathy. (On a side note, I
think these characters are still cursed by being stuck in the kid's
team book, regardless of theme or how Scott claims to treat them.
If Marvel wants any of these guys to have a real future, they need
to do things like give some of them stints in the adult team books.)

Never liked Cable, and I can find out the "mysteries" of the new
mutant child online.

X-Factor looks like it might ride through the aftermath most like
its prior form, just with a new goal for Madrox. But I wasn't
buying X-Factor before, either. For me, it just didn't make the
cut when money was concerned versus the number of X-books I was
already getting.

I'm not entirely sure what X-Men Legacy will actually be, but I'm
not that interested in Xavier's fate.

Uncanny would be another title tempting me, but I don't really
like the reason why. It isn't that Uncanny is good, or has a history
of being good, or even looks like it will be good in the future.
No, it is rather that it has a generically average feel. It is the
safe bet of the new order. And just because it is the most likely
to not be awful doesn't make the best reason to continue to buy a
book.

I guess I could say the last few years of titles have pretty much
killed my desire to read X-books in general. And while there might
be a new future, it isn't the kind of thing that will revive my
interest, because Marvel and the writers behind the books will
remain mostly the same in style.

I'm generally pretty happy about the new direction for the x-titles as
well...I especially like the fact that, for the first time since
before Morrison's run, they are actually acknowledging that the last
20 or so years of X-Men stories and characterization happened...up til
now, it seems like they've ignored almost everything since the mid-80s
and that has annoyed me greatly...I'm also happy that they are finally
letting Xavier go (though I'm sure it's only temporary) and letting
the X-Men stand on their own.

That said, I do have a few complaints...I like the concept of the new
X-Force but the line-up doesn't appeal to me at all and doesn't even
really make sense...with so many characters with varied and
distinctive abilities, it makes absolutley no tactical sense to put a
team together almost entirely of characters with powers that are
practically identical (never mind that Wolverine is being forced into
yet another book). Another thing I'm not all that fond of is New
X-Men ending...I really like the book and most of the
characters...and, even though we don't know all that much about Young
X-Men yet, the line-up doesn't seem to include many of the characters
I like. Finally, I'm not entirely sure about this whole X-Men: Legacy
bit...I guess I'll have to wait and see what this is about but if it's
some lame way of keeping Xavier around when he should finally be gone,
then I'll pass.

For the most part, I'm agreeing, though I don't agree with you in the
particulars.

For one, I won't be satisfied until the Decimation is 100% undone and
the mutant population is at least around a few hundred thousand.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of X-FORCE, but it's the fact that Kyle
and Yost are writing it that gives me hope. They, imo, are the two
best writers that Marvel has, with only Mike Carey coming close.

But they'll need to do a lot to prove themselves with this idea.

> Young X-Men

Eh. See my other post in the Young X-Men thread. I don't feel like
repeating myself.

> Never liked Cable, and I can find out the "mysteries" of the new

Never been much of a Cable fan, but I like him more than I've ever
liked Bishop. I think I'll pass, though I am curious about the baby.
Unless they age the baby, I don't see it being more than a prop,
however.

> X-Factor

Messiah Complex may have converted me to buy X-Factor, or it could be
that I just find all of the other titles to be cesspools.

> I'm not entirely sure what X-Men Legacy will actually be, but I'm

Carey and Xavier--nothing could please me more. I'm certainly more
interesting in Xavier than any of the older characters. Oh wait, and
OUR LORD MAGNETO! Could be heavenly.

> Uncanny

Brubaker has really destroyed any desire I had to buy this title. I've
already removed it from my pull-list. I must admit, though, that the
solicits for X-Men in a Hippie-ized version of San Fran sounds like it
could be fun. The cover for the April issue really looks trippy, in a
good way. If I pick it up, it'll be based on what my budget can afford.

THey have some good ideas, but the set up leading to it pisses me off
and the final part of Messiah CompleX was jsut stupid.

I'm not expecting Decimation to be "done" other than that future mutants
can be born. OK, maybe a few popularish characters will be re-powered,
but nothing in the hundreds of thousands.
