Strangely, I think I may be about to drop every X-related book that
I get.
Not entirely because of how the future looks though. Rather, I've
been coasting for a bit on books, and post-Messiah Complex looks like
it will make a pretty good jumping off point.
I don't want to buy X-Force. I like some of the characters in it,
so I probably would buy it. But I don't care about the Purifiers,
nor am I thrilled by the purpose of the book. Plus, isn't this where
Kyle & Yost are going? After their New X-Men, I'd rather avoid any
book with them.
Young X-Men might be tempting, but despite buying New X-Men, I
honestly don't care that much about any of the characters. It isn't
hatred, but more some form of general apathy. (On a side note, I
think these characters are still cursed by being stuck in the kid's
team book, regardless of theme or how Scott claims to treat them.
If Marvel wants any of these guys to have a real future, they need
to do things like give some of them stints in the adult team books.)
Never liked Cable, and I can find out the "mysteries" of the new
mutant child online.
X-Factor looks like it might ride through the aftermath most like
its prior form, just with a new goal for Madrox. But I wasn't
buying X-Factor before, either. For me, it just didn't make the
cut when money was concerned versus the number of X-books I was
already getting.
I'm not entirely sure what X-Men Legacy will actually be, but I'm
not that interested in Xavier's fate.
Uncanny would be another title tempting me, but I don't really
like the reason why. It isn't that Uncanny is good, or has a history
of being good, or even looks like it will be good in the future.
No, it is rather that it has a generically average feel. It is the
safe bet of the new order. And just because it is the most likely
to not be awful doesn't make the best reason to continue to buy a
book.
I guess I could say the last few years of titles have pretty much
killed my desire to read X-books in general. And while there might
be a new future, it isn't the kind of thing that will revive my
interest, because Marvel and the writers behind the books will
remain mostly the same in style.
