So I was wondering why Layla couldn't always read Guido, as she stated in today's issue.

I figure that Layla 'knows' things by how they react. This is based on her comment on the
butterfly/tsunami connection, and how she sees the first reaction and then can intuit the
rest of it. Since Guido's mutancy is to absorb kinetic energy, whatever Layla sends out to
bounce the First Cause onto them, it is absorbed by him, so she has nothing to read.

Or maybe since he is working for or being mind controlled by SI, then she can't read
someone else's actions if they are not there.

Mind control would make sense, since Guido wouldn't be making decisions
on his own. It was difficult to tell from the story whether Guido was
being mind controlled or if he always worked for Tryp.

My take was that Guido has been programmed to function as a sleeper
agent. Notice how he repeats, almost word for word, Buchanan's comments
about driving & talking on a cell phone. That struck me as a very
un-Guido thing to say, implying that he was in a highly suggestive
state. Tryp probably has trigger words that can put him into or get him
out of that state, allowing him to function normally most of the time.

Of course, that doesn't explain much about why Layla can't read Guido.
Perhaps Tryp is also able to block her power in some way in order to
prevent her from figuring out that Guido is a sleeper/mole.

I'm sure David is leaving it all intentionally ambiguous for a while
to keep us all guessing and up the suspense. Guido's kind of been out
of the lime light for the last several years so, I suppose, anything
is possible...who knows what happened to him in that time right?
Maybe he's been brainwashed or maybe he really is a traitor...he may
know something about Tryp's motives that we don't...maybe he thinks
he's doing the right thing...who knows? Incidentally, was Syrin's
attacker shown on panel (I can't remember)...could it have been Guido?

It was Tryp "Junior".
