Does anybody know where I can obtain a copy of
Issac Asimov's essay "Family Recollections From
Rehobeth Beach"?

Thanks in advance.

I got no problems.
Other people got problems.

I don't believe such an essay was ever written by Asimov (whose first
name was Isaac, as the name of this newsgroup attests). If, however, you
have any good evidence to the contrary, please let us know.

I believe this essay was written around 1953, about the same
time that Issac Asimov wrote his famous short story "The Nine
Billion Names of God", a short story chronicling how after the
work is done, the stars wink out one by one.

Richard:

You are on the wrong track. "The Nine Billion Names of God" was written
my Arthur C. Clarke NOT Isaac Asimov. Can't help on "Family
Recollections From Rehobeth Beach"

Good Luck

Which brings up the obvious set of questions, of course:

  a) Since the Good Doctor was an immigrant
from Russia to the US, did he mean "billion" in
the American sense or the (then) UKoGBaNI definition

   and

  b) has anyone dared to hook up a modern computer
to a printer and list out all those possible names?

You are correct. I always confuse Clarke's "The Nine Billion
Names of God" with Asimov's 1941 short story "Nightfall", a
short story chronicling how unaccustomed exposure to darkness
drives an entire city to madness.

I know what I need to know.

You will find that Richard pretty much always spells Isaac's name 'Issac'.

I have pointed this out to him, but he doesn't acknowledge the fact that
it's incorrect.

AAMOF, <looks over shoulder and lowers voice> I'm beginning to suspect
that he does it deliberately.
